Plans and licenses

What Individual, Pro, and Enterprise include, how the trial works, and what changes when a license lapses.

Entitlements are configured per license and can be adjusted for an organization, so the authenticated Plan and Subscription screens are authoritative for your account. Prices are deliberately not duplicated here.

A license is what BriefCatch checks before it lets you do anything. It decides which features you can reach, how many AI credits you get each month, how long uploaded documents are kept, and — for teams — how many people can be covered at once.

Your role is a separate question, and it only applies inside an organization. A license says what the account is entitled to; a role says what you personally may do with it. See Roles and permissions.

The three tiers

What each tier includes

Pro is the display name for the tier stored as Organization; you may still see the older name in an export or an invoice.

Learning-course access and stored-document retention are set per licence rather than fixed by tier, so the authenticated Plan screen is the answer for your account. Retention in particular is short by default — see below.

How long BriefCatch keeps an uploaded document

The window you can pick depends on two things:

• One hour is the baseline, and the ceiling for anyone whose licence does not include extended retention or whose organization has not turned the retention choice on.
• Up to seven days — 1 hour, 24 hours, 3 days, or 7 days — when the licence includes extended document retention and the organization has enabled the choice.

Seven days is the maximum the product offers at any tier. When the window runs out the file is deleted, not archived.

The trial

There is no separate trial plan. Every tier carries a 7-day trial built into it, so a trial is a state of the plan you picked rather than a plan of its own. During the trial you use the tier’s real entitlements and its real credit allowance.

Two consequences worth knowing:

• Starting a trial on one tier and then buying a different tier is a normal upgrade, not a migration.
• A trial account reaches the same product surfaces a paid account does, except the ones a payment method unlocks. Billing controls are one of those: a trialling individual is routed away from the billing screen until there is a subscription to manage.

When a license lapses

An expired or cancelled license does not lock you out of your own work. BriefCatch drops the account to read-only:

A lapse does not itself delete anything, but stored documents still expire on their own retention window, which is short. Anything you need to keep should already be in a connected drive. Reactivating restores the full feature set without re-uploading.

Credits

Credits are the metered unit. The monthly allowance is granted per period, and unused monthly credits expire before purchased top-up credits are touched, so a top-up you paid for is never burned while a free monthly grant is still sitting unused.

Not every action costs credits. Document review — the writing suggestions, the citation-format corrections, the report — does not consume credits. RealityCheck is the metered feature. See Billing and subscriptions for the ledger and what a run costs.

Changing tier

• An individual can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel from the subscription screen, and can create an organization to move onto a team plan.
• Inside an organization, only the owner can change the plan or the seat count. Admins manage people, not money.
• Enterprise terms are agreed with BriefCatch rather than self-served; the subscription screen shows the contract rather than a checkout.

Cancelling ends the subscription at the end of the paid term rather than immediately. The account keeps working until the term runs out and then drops to the read-only state described above.
